HAL Wins 4 Magellan Awards

Premium cruise line Holland America Line has received four “Magellan Awards” for 2011 from Travel Weekly.

A gold award was received in entertainment for the Nieuw Amsterdam’s singing quartet, Cantare. Another Gold was awarded for their online advertising campaign. A silver Magellan was received in design for their Lanai Staterooms aboard the Maasdam, Rotterdam, Veendam, and Statendam.

Finally, HAL received recognition for the Amsterdam as a Eco-Friendly/Green cruise ship. The Amsterdam is the first Holland America cruise ship to adopt practices for sustainable seafood. THe program has been extended to eleven ships, with the entire fleet being scheduled into the program by the end of 2011.

HAL has won 22 of the Magellan Awards since Travel Weekly began handing them out in 2008.

Things are truly looking up for the line, which emerged from bankruptcy and quickly announced a refurbishment plan of it’s three motor-sailing yachts. Refurbishment begins in November.
